Thank you, gay men

There's a frustrating reality for this single, straight woman: gay men.

This weekend is Pride in Vancouver, a celebration of all things GLBTQ2 and fabulous! Finely sculpted men are running around Vancouver without shirts and it's a total tease. Straight men don't look like that, and if they do, they don't talk to me.

In fact, the most frustrating thing about gay men is that they are the only people with penises who tell me I'm pretty, funny and have nice hair.

Breeder men never tell me that shit, and if they do, they're drunk.

So this is my thanks to boys who like boys - thanks for the compliments and calling me the next day. Can you teach those straight fellows a thing or two? Please?

Sigh. Too many of us never hear nice things. The last two years I kept telling myself that it is not someone else's responsibility to make me feel good about myself.

But is it?

July proved to me how nice it is to have someone else telling me 'It'll be ok', 'You're smart', 'They're loss'. Yes, my friends were great, but good lord would be nice to have a boy say those things.

It is nice when it comes from a boy. And it is nicer when it comes from the right boy.
