I've been found out, so now I'll never explore

A couple of months ago I heard about The XX through Miss Parlour and, well, I kinda thought they kicked ass.

When I bought their cd, I knew, they did kick ass. That cd is seriously, easily, one of the best I have heard this year, and, in case you haven't noticed, I have been listening to a lot of good music lately.

Sarin and I got tickets to their show the moment we found out they were coming - and this was months ago.

A few weeks ago, Lis bought a ticket and a flight to come out for the show.

This is how excited we all were for it. Seriously, the cd is ridic and if you don't love it, well, I think you might be stupid.

Anyways.

The show was tonight, and well ... it was lackluster.

First, the sound licked elephant balls.

Second, with an album as good as theirs, you forget that they are a relatively new band. That their shit isn't as tight as say, well, The YYYs shouldn't surprise us. I mean, he actually warned us about that.

But, as Miss Sarin stated, 'It felt like we were watching my buddy's band in high school."

They just weren't as ... perfect as I had hoped.

This doesn't mean their cd isn't brilliant or that they aren't headed for greatness, just that their first show in Vancouver left something to be desired.

I still heart The XX

Howdy Pardner!

Ok, so the second edition of baby bump is happening this week and I realized, I haven't really told you about baby bump or about my business partner, Lis.

Lis and I worked at the Crowne Plaza together. We were friends, mainly because her parents paid me and she wanted to be just like me.

So, Lis and I go WAY back.

Last winter I was in Edmo to visit my ma. Chunk and I went to Lis' for dinner, where we came up with the idea of a maternity consignment sale, over dinner and wine. Cool right?

Why am I involved in a maternity clothing consignment sale?

Well, because I think it's a really smart idea. Why the hell would you spend a ton of money on maternity clothes - you're only going to wear them for 8 months MAYBE. And then seriously, do you want to be reminded of how big you were when you're not prego anymore? I don't understand!

Anyways, I also kinda wanted to see an idea from idea to execution. You know, to see if a couple of trouble makers could make something useful.

Before I go any further, you gotta know how awesome Lis has been as a business partner. There have been very few bumps, the only one I can think of being when I was being cheap about a tagging gun. Yes, I'm retarded leotarded. Whatevs.

But Lis has been kick-ass awesome. She has let me run wild with the stuff I want to run wild with. I mean, I built a website in a weekend. Yes, I'm badass.

And here's another thing I dig about Lis:

Tonight, while we were prepping for a TV spot tomorrow, we spent a good chunk of the time laughing at ourselves and having fun. We get our shit done, but we get to have a gay old time while doing it - me likey.

She has been understanding of when my life is crazy and I can't concentrate on baby bump stuff, and pushes me when she knows I SHOULD be concentrating on it. We have been each other's reality checks, and a lovely support system.

After the last sale was over and we realized that we didn't bomb, we took our exhausted asses to the park by the condo and drank publicly. It was awesome.

It's kinda cool - she's a partner in crime AND in business.

Awesome right?

One bad blogger

Ok, I know, I have been bad. No writing, no nothing for a while now.

I suck.

But, the cool thing is, I haven't been writing, not because I haven't had anything to write about, but because there has been so much going on, I haven't had time to write!

Yay life!

The biggest of these was baby bump.

So, I hate event planning. The details details details, all for a few magical hours? Where the fuck is your return.

Anyways, thank god for Lis, because, well, this wouldn't have gone off as well as it did without her. I think she is a little magical and that's ok.

All-in-all the thing was a success. We had over 200 people through the doors and everyone, from the vendors to the customers seemed really happy with the whole thing. So that's cool.

Lis and I both made it out unscathed. Stressful, yes, but to see something that we thought of, and executed come together. Well, that was fucking cool.

Was it perfect? No. But it exceeded our expectations, and that's all it needed to do.

Plus, dad thought we did well, so I'm ok with it.

Also, it proved what an amazing support system we have. To have that big of a volunteer pool was pretty awesome. I can't imagine how we got so lucky, but here we are. Fucking lucky.

And I think I may have the best mom in the whole world. Just FYI.

You do crazy things on no sleep

Well, Saturday was an adventure. After getting back to the hotel around 7AM, Lis and I stayed up and giggled an appropriate amount, waking up the other girls and finally headed to bed around 9 or 10.

I was up again at 12:30 when Chunk and Autumn were getting ready. So I decided to go for lunch with them and see what the day would bring.

We went to a nice little French resto at the Paris. I had been there once before with my aunt. Food was still great, and our waiter was super fantastic.

Then we went shopping.

Then I wanted to die.

My hangover finally started at around 6pm. Yup, you read that right, 6 PM. What the fuck is that?!

We bought tickets to Zumanity. Holy shit was it good.

We were all blown away by it. It was funny, interactive and totally provocative. Great. I totally recommend it to the non-prudes out there.

After Zumanity, we hit up the casino at New York New York. We won some money. It was awesome.

Then off to ghostbar at the Palms.

A dancefloor outside, on the 55th floor - the breeze was incredibly conducive to dancing.

So we did. And we drank. And we danced. And we talked with boys. And fuck was it fun.

After the club closed we went to hang out with some new friends, and again, didn't get home till very early in the morning.

Debaucherous tales of Las Vegas

I hadn't been to Vegas in years. It had been so long, in fact, that I had forgotten what a ridiculously good time it can be.

This will be the first of several posts, as one would be too long and well, you deserve to know everything in the greatest of details.

What happens in Vegas no longer stays in Vegas. At least not when you have a blog.

Friday
I was so freaking excited for this trip. I had planned my outfits weeks before, prepped what I had hoped to do, and started to talk about it non-stop to anyone that would listen.

Fuck was I excited. Work had been hella busy, and while this couldn't have been a worse time, it also couldn't have been a better time. A full weekend with no work, no emails, no interweb.

Who was an excited lady?

I was, that's who.

So, Friday morning, I of course slept in a bit, made a mad dash for the border, with several panic attacks in between and boarded what could only be considered the ultimate party plane.

I swear every person on there, except for me, was hammered. (I had no American cash on me, hence the sobriety)

2.5 hours later, I landed in Vegas, ready for what promised to be a fucking gong show.

I hadn't seen the girls since March, so it was super exciting to see them all. Chunk was so pregnant it was shocking! I just had no idea her little body could carry that bump.

So Friday, we shopped, we explored a bit and then we went for dinner. PF Changs. Yeah, it was marginal, at best.

After dinner, Lis & I went for our first little adventure.

First off to Tryst. Yes, the club was beautiful - we are talking going from inside to outside, with a waterfall beautiful - but the music was meh and the boys were meh.

Oh well, as the club was closing, we decided - We need to dance! (At 4 in the morning).

At our request, the cabbie took us to an after-hours.

But it wasn't JUST an after-hours. Oh no, this my friends, was a stripclub.

SAY WHAT!? I don't want nipples with my gin & tonic. We promptly finished our drinks and headed out the door.

It was morning already and time for this night ... morning ... whenever to come to an end. But not before a stop at the Paris Hotel & Casino and the best McD's run ever. Not to mention the funniest.

Good life choices all around. Well except for the stripclub. And the normal club. And the resto.

Ok, so maybe the company compensated for the marginal-nature of the other things.

But still, good life choices.

Next ... Saturday.

Moms, moms everywhere.

No, I am not pregnant. There is, in fact, no way for me to be pregnant.

sigh

But, my friend Lis and I have joined forces to present baby bump consignment boutique.

It is a pretty cool idea - a one-day maternity consignment sale. New moms can earn back some of the money they spent on those maternity clothes and soon-to-be-moms can save some money on the clothes they have to buy.

Although I might just buy all of the elastic pants, just so I don't have to undo any buttons. That would be great. Restaurant relief.

Sorry, tangent.

Ok, so yeah, check it out. I did the website and I feel REALLY cool about it. And smart.

So far the coolest things about this project are:
  • Lis and I are having a freaking BLAST! We are chatting all the time, getting stuff done, but having fun at the same time.
  • It is cool to see what I know. During my workdays, the only thing I know for sure is what I don't know - but with this, I know stuff, and I get to remember that. It's a nice feeling.

So, yes, if you have any maternity clothes you want to get rid of ... holla!
